St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is the wizarding hospital of Britain. Founded by famous wizard Healer Mungo Bonham, in the 1600's, St. Mungo's is located in London. To enter the premises, one has to step through the window of what appears to be a derelict department store called Purge and Dowse Ltd. This acts as a magical gateway to the main building, very much like the magical barrier at King's Cross railway station on Platform 9¾. The exteriors of the hospital are red-bricked and dirty, which is the complete opposite of the interiors. Inside, everything is very neat and looks exactly as a hospital should. St. Mungo's emblem is a magic wand crossed with a bone.
Doctors at the hospital are not called doctors, but are known as Healers and wear lime-green robes. To become a Healer, a Hogwarts student must have N.E.W.T.s of at least grade E (Exceeds Expectations, second highest possible grade) in the subjects of Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, Herbology and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Presumably, they also must attend Healer School as well.
There are six floors:
Ground Floor. Reception and Artifact Accidents
Floor 1. Creature-Induced Injuries
Floor 2. Magical Bugs and Diseases
Floor 3. Potion and Plant Poisoning
Floor 4. Spell Damage
Floor 5. Tea Rooms and Hospital Shop
Even though the war between the dark lord and his followers and…Well the rest of the magical world who would fight against him was over. There still was a large number of people were still in the hospital. Healing and recovering from the war. It wasn’t just people who fought in the war. It was also people you got caught in the line of fire –so to speak. And these people were young. Some children, ages between 3 and 7 that were looking for their parents who had either been killed or were fighting in the war, hit with spells of all kind.
That is why the Ministry saw fit to create a new ward up on the fourth floor were young children could be instead of with adults cursing about what happened or the service that was in the hospital. And also in this ward was a brand new ward. That had nothing to do with spell damage or anything like that. It was a labour ward. Where young witches could go to give birth instead of going to a muggle hospital.
And in these two wards was where a ex student of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry was working. The day was Tuesday and the time was 8:30 in the morning. And most of the patients in the hospital were still sleeping when the ex Hogwarts student walked onto the fourth floor.
This person was a female age twenty one. She had blonde hair and was a tall 5 foot 9 and had brown eyes. Her tongue and belly button were pierced and she was wearing the required uniform. A lime green button up shirt, which she only had the three middle buttons done up as she had been running late, a pair of lime green pants, which sat on her hips. A pair of black enclosed heels and a long sleeved lime green floor length robe. Her blonde hair was held up in a bun by two hair chopsticks.
This young lady is the granddaughter of the late great Albus Dumbledore, Buffy Ann Dumbledore. And Buffy had been working at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries ever since she finished her degree to become a healer after she finished at Hogwarts.
She walked into the childrens ward and looked around as she walked quietly through the hall as the kids were still sleeping. She reached the wards front desk and looked at the lady that was behind it, who look like she was in her forties and had blue eyes and brown hair, who’s name was Jackie, and was giving Buffy a dirty look, “I know I’m late alright” she said as she walked over to her desk and picked up some folders.
“It’s not the fact that you’re late, Miss Dumbledore…it’s that fact of why you are late” Jackie said as she turned and looked at Buffy and raised her eyebrow, “Shopping?”
“No…traffic” Buffy said as she looked at Jackie then sat down on her desk and read through one of her patients folders. God be late once from shopping and it gets hold against you for ever, she thought to herself as she sighed slightly and pushed her fringe back out of her eyes so she could read properly.
